International Baccalaureate® (IB)
Primary Years Programme (PYP)
ISM offers the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate for students aged 6 to 12. The PYP combines the best educational research and practices from various national systems with the experiences of international schools to create a contemporary, engaging learning framework for children. Its interdisciplinary approach reflects the philosophy of our school and brings it to life.
The curriculum of the PYP is organized around six transdisciplinary themes:
Who we are
How the world works
Where we are in place and time
How we express ourselves
How we organize ourselves
Sharing the planet
Core Principles
Transdisciplinary
Our students gain cross-disciplinary knowledge- and learn to make meaningful connections between concepts and real-life contexts. Teachers integrate everyday, regional, and global themes into lessons, enabling students to apply their learning in daily life.
Action-Oriented
Students are encouraged to take an active role in the learning process. This can take the form of hands-on projects or deep reflection, helping students grow emotionally and intellectually..
Inquiry-Based and Concept-Driven Learning
Inquiry-Based and Concept-Driven Learning Teachers foster understanding by posing open-ended questions developed by the students themselves. Students explore their own thought processes and those of their peers, learning to understand multiple perspectives and engage in meaningful dialogue.
Learning Strategies
To prepare for lifelong learning, a strong foundation of skills, techniques, and knowledge is essential. These are developed not only in lessons but also through diverse and interactive learning methods.
Reflective
The PYP encourages students to take time to reflect on their work: what they’ve learned, what went well, and what they might improve. This process strengthens their ability to grow and respond to feedback constructively.
Our teachers also regularly reflect on their teaching to continuously adapt and improve the curriculum based on the needs of each student .
